Abrasive Wheel Train the Trainer

3 November 2025

Our RoSPA Assured Abrasive Wheel Train the Trainer is one of our most popular courses. Abrasive wheels are pieces of apparatus used across various industries, yet, as their name suggests, they present many, many dangers and challenges.

Equipping our trainers with the knowledge and guidance they need to pass onto individuals working with abrasive wheels is our mission, and it’s helping to ensure safety and legal compliance across several sectors. Read on to discover more about our Abrasive Wheel Train the Trainer course, including what it is, what’s involved and who it could benefit.

What is abrasive wheel training?

Our Abrasive Wheel Train the Trainer is a two-day course that delivers knowledge and skills on how to operate abrasive wheels correctly, safely and compliantly.

Abrasive wheels are used widely by many professionals, with angle grinders, chop saws, petrol cutters (including Stihl saws) and bench grinders just some of the equipment discussed with our delegates.

What’s involved in the course?

As a course that’s suitable for everyone, from beginners to more experienced practitioners, our Abrasive Wheel Train the Trainer syllabus aims to cover all the essentials of working with this type of equipment.

During the course, you’ll learn how to identify abrasive wheel equipment and associated hazards; ensure their safe use via the reduction or elimination of risk; and handle, store, mount and inspect such tools correctly and safely. You’ll also learn more about the legal requirements that apply to those working with or supervising the use of abrasive wheels.

Upon completion, you will receive RoSPA Assured National Training Services Instructor Certification valid for 3 years. After this point, you can stay up to date with our 1-day refresher course.

Who should enrol on this course?

Trainers supporting operatives within the construction, logistics and warehouse, engineering, rail, offshore and marine, heavy metal, oil and gas, workshop, mining, power, and heavy industries can all gain vital knowledge when enrolling on our Abrasive Wheel Train the Trainer course. Operatives include manufacturers, employers and employees.

Why is abrasive wheel training important?

Training operatives to correctly use equipment that contains abrasive wheels isn’t just a moral obligation but a legal one. Under the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98) and the Health and Safety at Work etc Act (HASWA) 1974, every employer has a responsibility to provide the necessary training for the safe selection, mounting, operation, storage and maintenance of abrasive wheels.
