Manual handling involves the transportation or support of a load by hand. This umbrella term applies to anything from activities that involve lifting and carrying to moving, pushing or pulling loads. The load can be an animate object, person or animal.
Manual handling is practised by almost every employee in some capacity, a fact that puts workers at risk of injury within workplaces up and down the country.
Manual handling can put workers at risk of a long list of injuries. According to the latest findings from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), just over a quarter of all non-fatal work injuries are caused by manual handling failures. As a result, the lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of heavy objects is something that should always be taken seriously.
It’s not just short term injury that the use of correct manual handling techniques prevents. Long term, proper training can reduce the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders, including carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, thoracic outlet syndrome and tension neck syndrome.
Our 2-day RoSPA Assured Manual Handling Train the Trainer course enables you and gives you the confidence to become an instructor delivering effective manual handling training to operatives. The training is suitable for any industry and covers the widest variety of situations.
