How a Train the Trainer course works

Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or beginner, our Train the Trainer courses are designed just for you; there are no pre-requisites for attendees.

NTS Train the Trainer courses include both practical training and theory and focus on delivering actionable advice on how to improve your skills as a trainer. Each course then goes into more depth around the specific area, and every attendee benefits from having their knowledge assessed as the course progresses.

During the course, you’ll be asked to complete a short written test which forms part of the assessment process. The training involves candidate participation, and a focus on the practical element of each session. On the second day, candidates are asked to carry out a practical training session on which they’re assessed.

If you have any concerns about our courses (for instance, if you are dyslexic or have any impairments), please do not worry - just give us a call beforehand so we can cater perfectly for your requirements.

What to expect from a Train the Trainer course

If you’re at all nervous or anxious about attending a Train the Trainer course, you have nothing to worry about. Our courses aren’t ‘death by PowerPoint’, nor are you put in situations in which you’ll feel uncomfortable.

As part of the assessment, you’ll be required to get involved with practical elements and deliver a short session on day two. NTS trainers ensure a good mix of both practical and theory work, which is often a pleasant surprise for our trainees; we regularly receive comments about how enjoyable NTS courses are!

There’ll be plenty of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you fuelled throughout the day, and you might just make some new friends, too. NTS training sessions are inclusive, encourage everyone to participate and share their experiences and designed to enable problem solving as a team.

Part of the assessment requires two friendly one-to-one interviews with us; one mid-course and the other at the end of your time with us. There’s nothing to be worried about; we’ll provide you with the questions beforehand and the interviews are simply designed to show that you have the ability to reflect on your experiences in the training room.

How to come prepared

Good news - you don’t need to do much at all in the run up to an NTS Train the Trainer session. We simply advise that you speak to your team and colleagues and ensure everyone is aware you’ll be absent for two days.

We also kindly ask that attendees switch off their phones during the training in order to give themselves the space, freedom and time to enjoy what is a fantastic two days of learning.

Our courses are held in a relaxed classroom environment, but, depending on the course you attend, there may be some elements that are conducted outside. We therefore recommend you come prepared for whatever Mother Nature can throw at us!

What you receive on completion

NTS is a City & Guilds Approved training centre. On completion of any of our courses, you’ll receive the following:

  • RoSPA Assured National Training Services Certification
  • National Training Services Registration and Certification
  • All course materials
  • Assessment
  • A trainer’s pack containing all the materials required to deliver your own training to operatives
  • Free post-course support

How to implement your learnings

An NTS Train the Trainer session will provide you with the latest knowledge and techniques for your chosen subject, but it’s vitally important you know how to implement your learnings when you return to work.

Armed with your new trainers’ manual, you’ll benefit from a full step-by-step guide to delivering the training course in-house. We usually recommend that trainers gather some friends and colleagues to perform a trial run-through to make sure the course content and delivery is spot on.

You may also wish to read through the course material we provide, but the key thing is to put your learning into practice as soon as possible once you leave the NTS training centre!

Why choose NTS?

We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive comments that are regularly sent in from trainees. Both new and experienced trainers love coming to NTS for Train the Trainer courses, and we often hear them tell us how enjoyable they found the sessions.

Every course we stage has a mixture of attendee experience from a wide range of industries, ensuring the sessions are vibrant and full of insight from different points of view.

Being a trainer can be quite a solitary experience - and we fully appreciate how you might feel if you’re nervous about putting yourself in the spotlight. That’s why no matter who you are, what industry you work in or what questions you have, an NTS training course will put you at ease and leave you armed with the best, safest knowledge.
