Asbestos Awareness Train the Trainer with NTS

Asbestos Awareness Train the Trainer course

In 1999, the use of asbestos was banned in the UK and regulations were implemented to control asbestos. These regulations were last updated in 2012 and require all non-domestic premises to have a “duty holder” whose responsibility it is to take reasonable steps to locate any asbestos on the premises, monitor its condition, inform persons who may disturb it, have a plan for its management and keep written records regarding all this information.

Quite simply, it is a class 1 carcinogen and therefore exposure to this material can lead to fatal cancer. In fact, there are approximately five thousand deaths each year in the UK due to exposure to asbestos fibres, about three times the number of people killed on the roads.

Lots of people are not aware of asbestos, and it is not visible to the human eye. Asbestos fibres are between 2 and 10 microns long, (between 2/1000mm and 1/100mm), the diameter of a human hair is anywhere between 20 and 200 microns. Due to the small size of asbestos fibres, they also stay suspended in the air for an extended period, which is why you often hear asbestos referred to as the invisible killer.

More about Asbestos Awareness Train the Trainer

Our 2 day RoSPA Assured Asbestos Awareness course is aimed at those in the construction industry and maintenance trades and will provide a knowledge and understanding of the risks associated with asbestos exposure as well as the different types of asbestos and the locations you are likely to come across it within the workplace.

Since November 2006, the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 state that it is a duty of employers to provide appropriate training for all workers that may be exposed to asbestos, including those that supervise anyone likely to be exposed to asbestos. It is vital that anyone involved in alterations to buildings constructed before 2000 received the appropriate asbestos awareness training. Even small drilling and sanding jobs can result in asbestos being released.  This will ensure that the correct precautions can be taken, reducing the risk of exposure whilst also meeting the legal obligations of protecting yourself and your workforce.

There are no prerequisites to attend this training. This course is suitable for beginners, up to experienced practitioners. We incorporate all levels of experience within the training.

This course is also available to book via the CITB Employers Network. Please contact your Customer Engagement Advisor from the CITB to book this course for you first. Then, please complete and return a booking form to us and confirm that your booking is going through the CITB.
